Ideal Wrap F.A.Q.

What is Ideal Wrap?

Ideal Wrap is a plastic-FREE, Washable, Reusable, Extra Long-Lasting, Organic, Biodegradable, and Super Good Looking food wrap. Designed and crafted to naturally reduce bacterial activity and prevent food spoilage, Ideal Wrap keeps fruits and vegetables fresher much longer than plastic wrap and baggies. Win-win!

Ideal Wrap is a plastic-free and highly reusable food wrap! Ideal Wrap is made in Saint Petersburg, FL!

What is Ideal Wrap made of?

Our wrap is made from 100% organic cotton fabric certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard, sustainably sourced beeswax from non-pollution areas, organic jojoba oil, and natural tree resin. Food wrap made from these materials has been scientifically proven to naturally reduce bacterial growth and lengthen the life of fresh fruits and vegetables!

Where are your wraps made?

Our wraps are made in Cave Creek, AZ! We use only 100% American beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resins.

Wait, do you really offer a 90-Day guarantee?

How do these ingredients work as a food wrap?

The breathable cotton allows fresh fruit and veggies to expel otherwise trapped gases, slowing their decomposition. These gases would be trapped inside an air-tight plastic bag which is why you get slimy greens, grey avocados, and whatever that weird film that grows on citrus is.

The beeswax provides excellent durability as well as being antibacterial, and jojoba oil in the coating provides further antimicrobial properties, and softens the wrap so it’s more pliable.

Tree resin is included in the mix to make the wrap sticky! This is what allows the wrap to adhere to itself, and give you the same clinging effect we get from static-laden plastic wrap. You'll find Ideal Wrap sticks to glass, ceramic and Pyrex, too.

Ideal Wrap is easy to clean by rinsing under cold water, adding a little dish soap and scrubbing gently if needed.

How do I use it?

Just mold your wrap directly around foods or containers. You can think of wrapping flat items (sandwiches, bell pepper halves) like folding an envelope. It just takes a little pressure and warmth from your hands to get it going and to create whatever effect you're after. With a little creativity, you'll find you can use Ideal Wrap with any size and shape of produce, bread or cheese!

Your wrap can be folded into snack pouches, baggies, or even bowls. Use your imagination! (Or your awesome origami skills.) It's also GREAT for covering rising dough, water kefir, and fermentation projects!

For superior liquid-repellance and spill-protection, spend a little extra time molding your wrap and creating a good seal.

There is one very important limitation of beeswax-based food wrap...

Keep away from heat. Beeswax has a melting point around 140-145 degrees, so hot food, hot water, and microwaves and a big no-no. Washing with hot, or even warm, water may deteriorate the coating.

And because you can't wash it with hot water, we recommend not letting your wrap contact raw meat.

How do I clean it?

Since Ideal Wrap is naturally antibacterial, you can clean it by simply rinsing under cool or tepid water, adding a little dish soap and massaging gently if needed. Pat with a towel and hang to dry.

Be sure your wrap is dry before folding it and putting it away, as once the beeswax begins to crack your wrap can mold.

How do I clean off this stuck-on gunk?

Oh yes, avocados especially can leave "gunk" stuck to your wrap. Quick fix: while rinsing your wrap under COLD water (to harden the beeswax coating and keep it in place), use the back of a spoon to gently scrape off any gunk or grime leftover from your wrapping endeavors.

Ideal Wrap sticks to itself with a little warmth and pressure from your hands.

Will my wrap stain?

The cotton cloth will indeed absorb excess oils (think leftover pizza) and colors from food (papaya, for sure) - this doesn't affect the function of the wrap, but it does decrease its visual appeal. You can prevent oil stains by blotting away excess oil before wrapping. And you can consider those papaya stains as signs of good use. ;)

What is the best way to store it?

We recommend storing your wrap folded in the original packaging for the best preservation, or alternatively, sandwiched between cutting boards. This prevents airborne particles from sticking to the wrap. Be sure to only put away your wraps once they're dry to prevent mold and keep the coating in tact.

When left exposed to the air, the coating may start to feel less sticky, but will be renewed when you start working with it.

Refrigeration and cool weather may also make your wrap feel less sticky. Simply spend a few extra seconds pressing with your hands to achieve the warmth necessary to make it pliable.

How long will my wrap last?

Depending on use, your wrap should last 12 months, or even longer. The less you wash it, the longer it will last.

When your Ideal Wrap starts to feel worn, you can give it a bit of a refresh by warming it on a cookie sheet in the sun or blasting it with a hair dryer. As the beeswax begins to soften, it will penetrate any cracks or bare areas.

When the time finally comes to replace your wrap, you'll probably feel sad, but you can recycle the old ones into fire starters, jar lid openers, as layering between pots, pans, and glassware, or even as shelf liners.

Pro tip: trim your disposed wraps into ~4" x 1" strips, tie a knot in the middle, and throw them in a jar. You now have a trendy jar of fire-starters for camping and grilling season! :)

What sizes do you offer?

Currently, we offer our wraps in small, medium, large and extra-large rectangles. Here's our size chart!

Can I cut or trim my wrap?

Yep! Our Small, Medium and Large sizes are 1" longer on one side than the other. If you prefer a perfect square, you can trim an inch off of one side with a sharp box cutter or "exacto" knife using a very firm straight-edge as a guide. You can also cut with scissors but it's not really the best way because of the coating. Be sure to hang on to those strips you cut away! They make great fire-starters, or can be further divided and used as ties!

How is my order shipped?
